270 Space Series

High Current, High Reliability Space Switches

Commonly found on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station, these high quality units are capable of handling 42 VDC and greater that is required by the new power sources.

Large satellites, spacecraft, rocket boosters, life support systems and experimental modules can all have high volume thermal overtemperature and regulating needs. With a cycle life of over 100,000 cycles, the high reliability, hermetically sealed 270 SPACE SERIES thermal switch is Honeywell's answer to the Space Industry's ever-changing high-current requirements.

  • Space Station
  • Classified Defense Programs

THERMAL SWITCHES exported from the United States must be done in accordance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) as applicable.

    Application Examples:

    • Non-standard buss voltages: 42 VDC to 130 VDC
    • Inductive applications: motors, pumps, large heaters
    • High current circuits @ 28VDC

    • S-311-641/04 "Switch, Thermostatic, Bimetallic, SPST, High Power, Hermetic, Detail Specification" [.pdf]

EEE Parts for Space Applications: its purpose is to support parts engineers, designers, system assurance managers and project managers in selecting, testing and procurement of EEE parts for use on NASA programs/ projects by providing links to parts related documents developed by NASA centers and Defense Supply CenterColumbus (DSCC).

On the site, we encourage you to see the new EEE- INST-002 (GSFC Parts Document) - Supersedes 311- INST-001, Rev. A. The revised document has added derating guidelines and four new sections to provide instructions for plastic encapsulated microcircuits, crystals, heaters, and switches. Section S2 addresses thermal switches. Selection, Screening and Qualification requirements, as well as references to military specifications, and test methods have also been updated.

Honeywell's 270 Series High-Reliability Thermal Switch is the result of years of meticulous engineering and continuous improvement. This product, originally developed for the locomotive industry, is the standard for voltage and/or current requirements exceeding MIL-PRF-24236 capabilities.

The product line continues to evolve with the addition of new standards. Off-the-shelf designs saves engineering resources, lead time, and expense by eliminating the need for customer specifications.

These high-reliability switches are 100% micro-particle analyzed, are visually precapped, and receive an extensive battery of screening and acceptance tests. This assures customers a product with the highest degree of workmanship and reliability. Residual gas analysis and Group B testing are performed on every production lot.

Upon testing and inspection Honeywell serializes each switch and completes an individual data sheet containing the acceptance test data.

No matter what your high-reliability application may be, Honeywell has the right solution for your system.
